Prusa Slicer

Prusa Slicer is an open-source 3D printing tool that provides 180+ auto profiles for resins and filaments. It is available for download on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It also offers community profiles for 3D printers same like orcaslicer.

How Prusa is Developed?

Slic3r Prusa Edition (Slic3r PE) was launched in November 2016 and renamed PrusaSlicer in May 2019 with major UI changes. The Perl source code was rewritten in C++.

It was developed from the original Slic3r project and forked in 2016 to improve flexibility and add features for Prusa printers.

It is still open-source, hosted on GitHub, and shares features with the original Slic3r project. For some users its better than creality slicer.

Installation Guide For Windows, MacOs & Linux

  • Download the installer from the above button.
  • Run the .exe file and follow the installation wizard.
  • Choose the installation folder (default: C:\Program Files\PrusaSlicer\) and any optional components like shortcuts.
  • Complete the installation and launch PrusaSlicer if desired.
  • Configure your printer, filament, and print settings on the first launch.
  • Download the .dmg file from above link.
  • Open the .dmg file and drag the PrusaSlicer icon to the Applications folder.
  • Eject the .dmg file by dragging it to the Trash.
  • Open PrusaSlicer from the Applications folder (bypass security via System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Open Anyway).
  • Configure your printer and filament settings during the initial setup.
  • First download the AppImage file (e.g., PrusaSlicer-<version>.AppImage)
  • Make the file executable using the terminal: chmod +x PrusaSlicer-<version>.AppImage.
  • Run the AppImage: ./PrusaSlicer-<version>.AppImage.
  • Configure your printer and filament settings during the initial launch.
  • Optional: Create a desktop shortcut or pin the AppImage to the taskbar for easier access.
